The Kingdom of Belgium (in Dutch Koninkrijk België, in French Royaume de Belgique, in German Königreich Belgien), a colloquial known as Belgium (Dutch België, French Belgique, German Belgien) is a country in Western Europe. It is one of the founding members of the European Union and hosts most of its institutions as well as other major international institutions, including NATO. Belgium occupies a territory of 30,528 km and has a population of over 11 million inhabitants. Belgium is bordered by the Netherlands, Germany, the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, France and the North Sea.
